As we aim to grow our impact and broaden our funding base, we seek an experienced, ambitious Head of Fundraising who will strategically lead our Philanthropy, Corporate Fundraising, Strategic Partnerships, and UK-based Community Fundraising.


Purpose of the Role

As Head of Fundraising and Philanthropy & Partnerships, you will develop and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy, leading a high-performing team focused on increasing income from high-value donors, strategic corporate partners, foundations, institutional funders, and community fundraisers across the UK.

This critical role will require a passionate fundraiser and leader with proven experience in securing substantial income and building long-term, meaningful relationships.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Fundraising Leadership

  • Develop and implement the organisation’s fundraising strategy with a clear focus on philanthropy, partnerships, and community fundraising.
  • Identify new opportunities and income streams to diversify fundraising and strengthen organisational resilience.

Philanthropy & Major Gifts

  • Lead and grow our major donor programme, cultivating relationships with high-net-worth individuals and foundations.
  • Oversee tailored engagement plans, ensuring personalised stewardship and maximising donor loyalty and retention.

Corporate Partnerships

  • Drive our corporate fundraising strategy, identifying and securing strategic partnerships aligned with our mission and values.
  • Manage and grow existing corporate relationships, ensuring mutual value, effective stewardship, and increased income.

Institutional Funding & Partnerships

  • Identify, develop, and manage partnerships with institutional donors, trusts, and foundations.
  • Lead on securing multi-year grants and funding, ensuring compliance, effective reporting, and relationship management.

Community Fundraising

  • Oversee and support a nationwide network of community fundraisers and volunteers across the UK.
  • Provide strategic leadership, training, and resources to maximise grassroots fundraising potential.
  • Set clear fundraising targets and KPIs for regional fundraising activity and ensure consistent delivery.
  • Coordinate with regional staff and volunteers to support campaigns, local events, and fundraising drives.
  • Ensure strong donor stewardship and effective supporter journeys for community fundraisers.
  • Act as a central point of leadership for regional engagement strategies and activities.
  • Ensure community fundraising activities align with broader organisational priorities and uphold our brand values.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build, mentor, and manage a dynamic and effective fundraising team.
  • Foster a high-performance culture based on accountability, innovation, collaboration, and professional growth.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration

  • Work closely with Marketing, Programmes, and Finance teams to ensure integrated approaches to fundraising.
  • Contribute to organisational strategic planning and senior management discussions.

Reporting & Governance

  • Ensure robust reporting systems, maintaining accurate records of donor interactions, fundraising activities, and income.
  • Produce insightful reports for the Executive Director, senior leadership team, and trustees.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Extensive fundraising experience with a proven track record of securing significant funding from major donors, corporate partnerships, institutional funders, and community-based campaigns.
  • Demonstrable experience in strategic leadership roles within fundraising.
  • Exceptional relationship-building, networking, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent understanding of philanthropic trends, corporate social responsibility, and institutional funding landscapes.
  • Understanding of Muslim philanthropic behaviours and Islamic giving traditions.
  • Strong leadership, team management, and strategic planning skills.
  • Highly organised, analytical, and financially astute.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within international development or humanitarian sectors.
  • Experience managing fundraising around Ramadan and other key fundraising periods.

This includes organising treks, challenges, fundraising tours, and community events, while also serving as a public representative of the charity on TV, social media, and public platforms.

A key part of this role involves building and nurturing relationships with mosques, community groups, and faith-based or non-faith-based institutions, as well as supporting deployment trips to project areas abroad. You will also work collaboratively across departments—including Supporter Relations, Marketing, and Programmes—to ensure alignment and success in all campaigns.
